Yogurt
Uniquely Delicious.
Redwood Hill Farm Goat Milk Yogurt is a unique and all natural European-style yogurt. We start with the best-tasting grade A goat milk. A special blend of living cultures creates a classic yogurt flavor, and includes acidophilus and bifidus to promote healthy digestion. Our yogurt does NOT contain gelatin, refined sugar, preservatives, artificial colors or flavorings. Redwood Hill Farm's yogurt is made WITHOUT antibiotics, added growth hormones, GMO's or toxic pesticides. Completely natural, Redwood Hill Farm yogurt is kosher certified by the New England Rabbinical Council.

Because of a recent book written by Jordan Rubin discounting the health benefits of s. thermophilus, some customers have asked us to make our yogurt without this beneficial digestive enzyme. It is FDA law however that s. thermophilus as well as l. bulgaricus be included in all yogurt sold as a standard of identity.

Many people who are allergic to cow milk products or who suffer from lactose intolerance can enjoy our yogurt. Yogurt cultures convert lactose into lactic acid, making yogurt easier to digest than milk. Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus can help to restore normal intestinal flora after antibiotic therapy.

At Redwood Hill our philosophy is to produce the least-processed, most natural goat milk products possible. Our yogurt is made from unhomogenized whole goat milk, and the slight cream layer at the top can either be enjoyed or removed if you prefer a lower fat yogurt. Because the composition of goat milk changes seasonally, variations in texture are normal. We do add a small amount of tapioca (natural from the cassava root) to slightly thicken our yogurt.

Our Vanilla yogurt is sweetened with pure maple syrup. Apricot-Mango and Cranberry Orange is sweetened with all natural fruit juice concentrates and our delicious Strawberry and Blueberry yogurt are sweetened with all natural fruit juice concentrates and clover honey. Redwood Hill Farm Plain yogurt contains no sweetening of any kind. We never use sugar, fructose, or any artificial ingredients of any kind in our award-winning yogurt. All flavors are available in 6-ounce containers; the plain and vanilla flavors are also available in an economy quart size.

Redwood Hill Farm Goat Milk Yogurt is distributed across the United States and is available at health and natural food stores as well as independent grocers. We do not ship our yogurt direct because of our its delicate texture and the fact it cannot be subjected to rough handling during shipping.

Winter Yogurt Shortage?
Goats on "Maternity Leave", busy having kids!
All goats are seasonal in their milk production and have their baby "kids" during the winter and early spring. We stop milking our goats during the last two months of their pregnancy, so they can rest and then give the milk to the new baby kids after that. We appreciate your understanding during this annual shortage period.

Are we organic?
No, not yet! Although our farm is organic, we have been unable to obtain 100% of our goats' feed ingredients as organic, which would enable us to label our goat milk products Certified Organic. At Redwood Hill Farm we do believe in a natural approach to animal husbandry and our dairy goats are raised "free range" and humanely. All have names, distinct personalities and a good life here on the farm. We use organic practices at Redwood Hill: no sprays, insecticides, pesticides, etc. We use biological insects for fly control. We use organic feed where possible. The grain mix that we feed the goats contains NO hormones, antibiotics, animal by-products, or preservatives. Our goats have only been fed vegetarian for the life of our business. The grain is NOT genetically modified. Hay is 70% of our goats' diet and we are able to obtain hay at times that is organically grown.

Origins
According to one legend, yogurt originated when the goat was first domesticated in Mesopotamia about 5000 BC. Warm goat milk, stored in gourds in the warm climate, naturally soured and formed a curd. According to Dr. Frank Kosikowski, "someone with sufficient courage tasted this clabbered mass and rendered a favorable verdict. History was observed in the making, and yogurt was on its way."
