Our herd enjoys a high standard of health, especially considering its size. We have a comprehensive vaccination and worming program. We test for CAE annually and separate any CAE positive animals with the suggested 6 ft. between fence lines.
In order to insure that all our kids reach their full genetic potential, we attend every kidding and take precautions to make sure that their kids are unable to nurse. Kids are removed immediately from their dams, and raised in a separate facility. They are fed heat treated goat colostrum and pasteurized goat milk and yogurt until weaning.
Unless your herd (or source of kid milk) can be verified to be CAE free, we strongly urge you to continue your Compañeros or Redwood Hill kid on a pasteurized milk program. If you prefer, we can raise your kid until weaning for you. We charge $300 for this service.
We reserve the right to not to offer for sale any kid born if we decide to retain it for our own herd or to sell in the colorama or spotlight sale, even if we have accepted a deposit previous to the kid being born. Kid availability and deposit order is at the discretion of the herd manager/herd owner. Excepting unique circumstances, the order of reception of deposit decides the deposit order. We accept deposits of $100.00 per kid ordered. If the kid is not born or we decide not to offer it for sale, your deposit may be transferred to another kid or refunded. If the kid is offered for sale and the buyer decides not to complete the purchase, the
deposit will not be refunded.
We prefer to ship kids at five to seven weeks, since at that age they are best able to adapt to a new home environment. The price of our kids includes ADGA Registration fees, and delivery to San Francisco International Airport, but does not include health certificate (required for out of state shipment, usually $60), shipping crate ($80 to $110, depending on size), or shipping costs. It may be
possible for us to loan you one of our crates. We will compare airline prices to find the most reasonable shipping price to your destination. Cost varies but ranges between $300 and $400 depending on crate size, weight, and where the kid is shipped. Because we usually do not ship kids that are under four weeks of age, and since the airlines require that kids must be able to stand up and turnaround in their crate, we cannot ship kids in size #200 kennels. Most buck kids are shipped in a #400. Registration papers will be provided as soon as possible after the final balance has been paid by the buyer.
Canadian and out of U.S. shipments will cost more due to cost of extra health tests. If possible, we encourage you to pick up your kid at the farm so that you can visit the herd. Purchasing a kid, especially sight unseen, is an expensive investment and we want you to be pleased with your purchase.
Upon request we will send prospective buyers photographs of their kids dam or other relatives, however we hesitate to send pictures of the newly born kids, as evaluation at this age is difficult. We will give a frank and honest evaluation via phone, fax or e-mail.
Artificial insemination is one of the best tools that we have for rapid genetic improvement. Unfortunately, much of the goat semen being marketed at this time is sold on the basis of pedigree only, without waiting to evaluate actual progeny, and we feel that this is not a good idea. Our policy is to refrain from marketing a buck’s semen until after we’ve had a chance to evaluate milking daughters.
If you purchase a Compañeros or Redwood Hill buck kid, we ask that you agree to refrain from advertising or marketing his semen until after you have been able to evaluate several of his daughters in milk. On any buck kid that we sell we reserve the option to purchase 20 units of semen for the cost of collection.
