Cheese and Beer Pairing

Beer_Cheddar_STOCK

Try these great Redwood Hill Farm Artisan Goat Cheese and beer pairings, many courtesy of Miss Cheesemonger – Check out her blog on our pairing seminar here!

  • Redwood Hill Farm Aged Goat Cheddar
    AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale
    — One of Farm Manager Scott Bice’s favorites.  This beer is hoppy enough to cut through rich foods, good with brie style cheese, farmhouse cheddars and many goat cheeses.
  • Redwood Hill Farm California Crottin
North Bay Brewing Company Le Merle Saison — a saison style ale, local with spicy, almost peppery notes.  Slightly malty and bitter.  A Farmhouse, sour beer with a beautiful head and gorgeous “lacing”. We all agreed this pairing was superb with the Crottin and very good with Bucheret.
Cali Craft Buzzerkeley Sparkling Ale—we loved this pairing at the 2014 American Cheese Society gala “Festival of Cheese”! This ale walks the line between champagne and beer. It has a refreshing tartness from the use of Champagne yeast and fruity esters from Belgian and American malts.
  • Redwood Hill Farm Bucheret
1809 Berliner Style Weisse — Import, German with notes of fruit, green blueberry, sour.
Telegraph California Ale — Fruity, with tasting notes that are bright, fresh, and crisp. The Berliner Weisse 1809 paired quite nicely with the Crottin and Bucheret.
  • Redwood Hill Farm Fresh Chèvre
For many of the fresh Chèvres, the 1809 Berliner was a great pair.  All of the Chèvres are light and airy in texture, with a pronounced citrus freshness that complemented the lemony 1809 so well.
The Le Merle Saison paired nicely with the Plain & Roasted Chile Chèvre.
Hecht Echlenferla Eiche Doppelbock went well with the Three-Peppercorn and Garlic-Chive Chevres, bringing out an almost leathery, decadent aspect in each cheese!
The Chimay White Cap and 3-Pepper Chevre complemented each other very well.
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale was an interesting pairing with the 3-Pepper Chevre; contrasting and mellowing the pepper.
